Mercury, known as “Mercurius” in Latin, was the Roman god of communication, commerce, and travelers. He was often considered the messenger of the gods, responsible for delivering messages and guiding souls to the afterlife. In addition to the mythological figure, the planet Mercury is named after this Roman god. The swiftness of the planet’s orbit was seen as a reflection of Mercury’s quick and agile nature.
The obverse side of the Sunshine Mercury Gold Bar features a depiction of the Roman god. Here, Mercury’s muscular physique is captured in right-profile relief with his figure seemingly in motion in the design. Historically, Mercury was typically depicted wearing a winged helmet and sandals, which allowed him to move swiftly, emphasizing his role as a messenger. He also often carried a caduceus, a staff with two entwined serpents, which has become a symbol of medicine and healing.
On the reverse field of 1 oz Mercury Gold Bars, you will find the SMI logo at the top of the bar. The individual serial number, weight, metal content, and purity are all included on this side as well. The Sunshine Eagle at the bottom serves as the Enhanced SMI Security element.
