In part, the Krugerrand honors the former President of the South African Republic, Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger. One of the most significant events during Kruger’s presidency was the Jameson Raid in 1895, led by British colonial administrator Leander Starr Jameson. This attempted raid into the Transvaal to support an uprising against Kruger’s government led to increased tensions between the Boers and the British Empire. These tensions eventually erupted into the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902), which saw Kruger’s leadership against British forces.
All of the 2024 1/4 oz South African Gold Krugerrand Coins are available individually or in bulk from the mint. Individual coins come in plastic flips, while multiples of 50 coins are shipped in acrylic tubes. The coins arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
Obverse design elements on the 2024 South African Gold Krugerrand Coin include a portrait of Paul Kruger. This left-profile relief was created in the 1890s for the South African Pound gold coins issued by the republic.
Reverse visuals on these 2024 1/4 oz Gold Krugerrands feature the Springbok antelope. The design shown here was originally created in the 1930s and featured on various denominations of South African currency. The Springbok is the official emblem of the modern Republic of South Africa.
